Panel/Service Upgrades & Repairs
Reasons for Panel/Service Upgrades/Repairs
Over the years, circuits may have been added to a home’s main electrical panel. It is often noted that panels are over-loaded with circuits – this is a fire hazard and does not meet ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) Codes and Standards. These panels must be upgraded to a larger panel, or if space is available, a sub-panel may be installed to accommodate the additional circuits.
When there are large renovations planned (including a swimming pool, hot tub, basement apartment, etc…), the additional electrical loads that these alterations/ additions present, may require an upgrade from the standard 60amp/100amp sizes to 200amps.
There has been a storm and the overhead wiring/ pipe on the house is damaged. There is a truck that pulls down overhead lines and the pipe is pulled away from the house. This requires emergency replacement service. As an ACP (Authorized Contractor Program) member with the ESA, we are able to quickly attend to these calls and have our customer’s power restored – usually within the same day.
Homeowners often want to update their existing panel to a newer one. The one they have may be the original one installed when the home was built, may be corroding, falling apart, or just older.
What is involved with a Panel/Service Upgrade/Repair
Mr. Electric will complete a site visit to see what is needed (i.e. how much wiring is involved, does the panel only need to be replaced or does the entire service need to be replace/ upgraded, etc…)
Once the work is approved by the customer, an appointment will be coordinated with the Hydro utility for the disconnection/ reconnection of the main power going to the meter. We also work on the customer’s behalf to obtain a permit for the necessary work and coordinate between the homeowner and the ESA for any inspection(s) required.
On the day that work is to begin, Mr. Electric arrives on time, prepared to complete the work. Once work is completed, and final inspection has passed, Mr. Electric will forward the ESA Certificate of Inspection pass report to the customer signifying work has been completed and done to code (usually the next business day).
What is the cost to upgrade, repair or replace my panel/service?
Panel/service replacement, upgrade or repair cost depends on how many circuits and devices are in your home. Mr. Electric’s licensed electricians can provide you with an estimate.
